PrivacyBlur Privacy Policy

Effective 24 October 2026 · Extension version 1.0.0

PrivacyBlur auto-blurs sensitive data on the pages you open — entirely inside your browser, with no server behind it.

Quick summary

01 · What is PrivacyBlur

PrivacyBlur is a browser extension that automatically blurs potentially sensitive text on the web pages you open — currency amounts, national IDs (NIK/SSN/NIN), card numbers, emails, phone numbers, and bank account numbers — so they aren't visible at a glance to people around you (screen sharing, presentations, working in public). Blurred text clears briefly when you hover over it. On WhatsApp Web and Telegram Web, PrivacyBlur can also blur entire message bubbles and contact previews.

Features (in Indonesian): lambada.app/privacyblur.

02 · What data is processed, and where

All detection — matching page text against patterns for currency amounts, national IDs, emails, and so on — runs entirely inside your browser, via a content script that reads the DOM of the page that's open. This includes the values of visible form fields (<input>/<textarea>), so that fields containing sensitive data are blurred too; password fields are never read. No page text, detection result, or excerpt of any kind ever leaves your browser. PrivacyBlur makes no network requests at all from its own extension code.

03 · What we don't do

04 · Permissions requested, and why

PermissionWhat it's for
storage Stores your own settings (popup language, per-site blur mode, which detectors are active) locally/synced through the browser.
activeTab Reads the active tab's hostname when the popup opens, so the popup can show and change settings specific to that site.
Page content access (<all_urls>) The content script needs to read text on any page to detect & blur sensitive data on whatever site you visit — not just a fixed list of sites. Processed locally, see section 02.

05 · Settings storage

The settings stored are preferences only: popup language, the list of sites where you turned PrivacyBlur off (site names only, e.g. example.com, never page addresses), per-chat-site blur mode (full blur vs. sensitive-data-only blur), which data types are turned on, and Privacy Screen status. All of it is stored via chrome.storage.sync — the browser's built-in mechanism that syncs through your own browser account, not to any server operated by PrivacyBlur's developer.

06 · WhatsApp & Telegram Web mode

On web.whatsapp.com and web.telegram.org, PrivacyBlur recognizes message bubble and contact row elements through those sites' own HTML structure to apply per-bubble blur and contact-sidebar blur. This recognition is purely structural/CSS-based on the client side — PrivacyBlur never reads message content for any purpose other than deciding which parts to blur, and never stores or transmits your conversation content anywhere.

07 · Sending feedback

The "Send feedback" links in the popup open your own email app with a template containing the extension version and your browser and operating system name/version (for example "Chrome 150, Windows"). The template never includes the address or content of the page you are viewing. Nothing is sent unless you press send yourself, and you can edit or remove anything first. Emails you send to [email protected] are used only to reply to and follow up on your feedback.

08 · Policy changes

If this policy changes, the "Effective" date at the top of this page will be updated. Because PrivacyBlur doesn't collect your contact information, we can't notify you directly — please check this page occasionally if you want to be sure.
